    I get this question asked all the time. Is it ok to stop smoking cold turkey? Yes, if you smoke a pack a day or less. If you smoke more than a pack a day or have other addictions you need to watch one or two of the other videos in this series to address how to taper down before you quit cold turkey.

    The way to do cold turkey of course is to set a date, document or write down all your triggers, your habits and the routine you have around smoking. Very deliberately make a list of how you are going to change those routines and go to sleep every night, wake up every morning with your own self-hypnosis intention and your own meditation or visualization about seeing yourself living your life in that new routine the new habit as a non-smoker.

    The bottom line for quitting smoking cold turkey is making a decision…a commitment to yourself…and just do it, just do it.

    Why hypnotherapy and clinical hypnosis works to stop smoking cigarettes. This is an easy one. Hypnosis works because the bigger part of the process of smoking is the habit not the addiction. In 48 hours your body is going to push out all the nicotine from your body whether you smoke 1 cigarette a day or 50 cigarettes a day.

    Your body is already expert at making you a non-smoker. It is the habit that hooks most people combined with, of course, the nicotine, as the addictive process that perpetuates the cycle. Hypnosis works in the same area of the brain where habits reside. The subconscious is the domain of hypnosis and the domain of habit in the brain and the body and that is why hypnosis works.

    Yes. And is not hard when you approach stopping smoking the proper way. I know you have probably tried over and over again to quit smoking and have failed. That is only because you have not approached it the proper way. The proper approach is given in this video series and let me tell you straight up that you have not failed because you lacked will power or you are trying to kill yourself and any of that nonsense. You have not succeeded because you have not approached quitting smoking the right way.

    You have not recognized the power of your sub-conscious mind and habit-contribution to the process of smoking cigarettes. Recognize that belief and expectation are physiological. Your belief about quitting smoking becomes part of the physiological process of quitting. So first, before even you pick your quit day, adjust your belief so that you do believe you can quit smoking. You can do that because not a cell in your body wants another hit of nicotine poison.

    Your body has been trying to make you a non-smoker between every cigarette you have ever smoked. Just get over the fear, get over the fear of losing a so-called friend. That is it. You are not losing a friend. If a cigarette was ever a friend it is the worst kind of friend you could possibly have. One that told you it could do all these good things for you: help you get going in the morning, help you deal with stress and anxiety, help you deal with boredom. All that is the lie of addiction. Those are false associations.

    Just make up your mind to do it, get over the fear, believe you can and do it.

  • Tip-18: Five Most Common Myths about Quitting Smoking

    Five Myths About Stopping Smoking:

    quitting smoking is hard. Not! quitting smoking is easy when you approach it the proper way.

    I am not addicted. Bull. If you are smoking more than 2-3 cigarettes a week you are addicted. If you cannot stop; if you cannot put them down; then you are addicted. Nicotine is a habit and it creates the addition.

    I will gain weight. No, you will not gain weight when you quit smoking properly, i.e., where you do not replace the habit of smoking with the habit of eating. So gaining weight is not an automatic assumption once you quit smoking.

    I am losing a friend. No, you are not losing a friend; in fact, you are not losing anything at all. You are gaining everything. It is pure gain to quit smoking. If nicotine was a friend it was the worst possible friend you could ever have: it lied, cheated and stole from you. Cigarettes, smoking and nicotine are not your friends.

    How will I deal with stress? You will deal with stress in a more healthy and constructive way because nicotine is a stimulant. When you get stressed out do you think about going to Starbucks and doing a triple shot of espresso? Of course not; that sounds silly to address stress with a stimulant, doesn’t it? Nicotine is a stimulant. The fact that you think it reduces your stress is actually a false association. When you stop putting that stimulant in your body you actually find it easier to deal with stress. You will learn a different way to deal with stress rather than putting a cigarette in your mouth, toxifying your body and adding a stimulant.

  • Tip-19: How to Quit Being a Closet Smoker

    “I am a closet smoker. How do I quit?” I am seeing more and more closet smokers as time goes by and there is a very good reason for that. Smoking is becoming less and less socially acceptable. Further, many people are closet smokers because they are hiding it from their spouses, their children or their parents. Closet smoking creates its own unique challenges. Probably one of the most significant one is that sneaking away to have a cigarette feels somewhat rebellious, which is why many people started smoking in the first place when they were children.

    It is also a way to get away. If you have a family you have a busy life, and sneaking away for a few minutes on your own can be a real nice get away…and then the getaway then becomes associated with smoking. That is a very dangerous combination. You still need to be able to get away. You still need to be able to take breaks. Just do it in a constructive way. And if you have that rebellious spirit then find some other way to get out of the box.

    A very important part of quitting smoking is to honor that nature, that creative, rebellious part of you that needs to get away and take a break from the stresses of life. On the other hand many people who are closet smokers just hate it because of the very reasons I just mentioned. In either case the way to break free is to listen to every video in this series, in the order I have numbered them. Make your decision, address both the habit and the addiction and just do it.

  • Tip-20: Quitting with COPD

    COPD is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease like emphysema, is a process of degradation, deterioration in the little air sacs in your lungs called alveoli and you lose the ability to take up oxygen and eliminate carbon dioxide through the process of breathing. It is a irreversible disease so if you have that I strongly suggest you find the reason and quit now, if you still smoking with COPD that means you probably need professional help because I suspect you have tried to quit by your own, it is important that your process of quitting includes respiratory repair methods, now because its degenerative and ones you destroyed the alveoli they are not coming back, but you have over three hundred million of them on the inside lining of your lungs, so it’s a process of scale or magnitude the sooner you stop the sooner you can begin eliminate the tar from your lungs and the carbon deposits that are destroying the linings within the cells of the alveoli, so the bottom line is if you have COPD quit now, get help if you need to.

  • Tip-21: Stopping Smoking Cigarettes and other Addictions

    quitting smoking cigarettes if you have other addictions depends on the other addictions. Addictions such as alcohol, cocaine, meth…those types of addictions, I strongly recommend that you quit those other addictions first because they can be triggers to smoking cigarettes and can create a vicious cycle.

    If you have a food addiction, a common one being a carbohydrate addiction, simple carbs, and comfort food like sugar, cookies, ice cream, potato chips, things like that, I recommend you quit smoking first give your body 3 to 4 weeks to normalize after you quit. Then address the food addiction and the emotional eating addiction separately. Seek professional help if you need to for all these other addictions.

    There are some great organizations out there that are very successful: Alcohol Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, are both very successful programs. Many people do not like the group environment but that is part of what makes them successful. If you do not like these organizations then get professional help. But in either case all these addictions are affecting you negatively in many areas of your life, including your mind and your body. Make the decision it is time to get free.

  • Tip-22: Quitting Smoking and Weight Loss

    If quitting smoking is part of your plan to get healthier in your life I would recommend that you quit smoking first because the process of smoking is artificially influencing your endocrine system, your nervous system, your cardiovascular and respiratory system, and you want all those to normalize, stabilize for 3-4 weeks after you quit smoking, then get into your weight loss program. Be very deliberate about it: get active, create a plan, I strongly recommend that you do food and meal activity logging each and every day, each and every meal, and then stay committed to the process of becoming healthy.

  • Tip-23: Quitting Smoking and Surgery

    quitting smoking before surgery. Smokers have an increased risk of cardiac, respiratory and wound related complications as a result of surgery. So I strongly recommend, and most doctors and anesthesiologists would also recommend, that you quit smoking at least 3-4 weeks before your surgery.

    The good news is that carbon monoxide, which is a poisonous gas that you get from smoking, decreases significantly within the first 12 hours after quitting. But you do really want to give your body 3 to 4 weeks after quitting smoking before you enter into the surgery.

    Smoking cigarettes and wound and bond healing. I see many people who need to quit smoking because they have a broken bone or an open wound that is not healing. They quit smoking and the bones and the wounds heal.

    So it is very important for you to quit smoking if you have a broken bone or an open wound that is not healing. This really does highlight the significant adverse effects that smoking has: if you don’t heal wounds naturally or heal a broken bone you can imagine what smoking is doing to the rest of your nervous system, immune system and other areas. So don’t just quit smoking so your bone heals or for your surgery so the wounds heal. quit smoking because it is a healthier thing to do overall, and so you can avoid the complications and possibility of infection and other consequences of wounds and bones not healing.
