  • Why Am I Experiencing Muscle Twitching After Quitting Smoking?

Why Am I Experiencing Muscle Twitching After Quitting Smoking?

When a person quits smoking, their body goes through many difficult changes because it is trying to rid itself of the poisons from smoking. These are called nicotine withdrawals. Withdrawals present themselves in a variety of ways and can vary in terms of severity.

Smoking cigarettes is very damaging to the health of the smoker for many reasons. Some of the dangerous side effects of smoking range from cancer and diabetes, to yellowing of the fingers and other physical symptoms. Quitting smoking will greatly improve the quality of your life as well as increase longevity.

When you quit smoking there are always side effects, but they are much less severe than what lays in store health-wise should you continue to smoke. One of the less severe withdrawal symptoms sometimes experienced is twitching or spasms of the muscles. While this is an irritating condition, it is temporary. This article will discuss muscle spasms, withdrawal symptoms, the ways to make the spasms subside and how Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy can help alleviate these symptoms.

    What Are Muscle Spasms?

Muscle spasms can occur in many parts of the body. These spasms are caused by dehydration, overuse, and decreased electrolytes. They are usually abrupt and painful, but generally short-lived. Muscles spasms generally occur when they are over-used or tired, over-stretched, or have been inactive for a long period of time. The muscles run out of fluids that keep them loose and become hyperexcitable, which then forces a contraction of the muscle. Muscle spasms can also occur with the narrowing of the arteries, making it hard for the heart to get blood to all the areas of the body. This is common in smokers because nicotine slows blood flow by restricting the blood vessels in the body. This also means that the vessels are not receiving enough oxygen.

Muscle twitching is different than a muscle spasm in that it is the uncontrolled movement of a small segment of a larger muscle and can be seen under the skin. Many people who have just quit smoking will experience muscle twitching or spasms because their body is trying to rid itself of all the toxins that come from smoking. As the heart grows stronger and can process blood to all the areas of the body more efficiently, the spasms and twitching should go away. If the twitching persists after a month or so, you should check with your doctor to see if there is more permanent damage.

    Withdrawal Symptoms

Along with muscle twitching and spasms there are some other withdrawal symptoms that you could experience. These can vary in intensity and should only last a few weeks. Some of these symptoms include:

    • Headache
    • Sore throat
    • Coughing
    • Nausea
    • Sweating
    • Anxiety
    • Insomnia
    • Fatigue

These are all symptoms that come with quitting smoking and vary with intensity. They are usually mostly mild but some can be quite severe. Fortunately, muscle twitches are one of the less severe withdrawal symptoms, and should go away quite quickly. Unfortunately, they can also be one of the more annoying symptoms!

Learn How to Alleviate Muscle Twitches When You Quit Smoking

Ways To Make Muscle Twitching Subside

Besides being a symptom of smoking withdrawals, another cause of muscle twitching and spasms is stress. Stress tightens muscles and weakens the blood supply to them, causing them to contract. Often times the act of quitting smoking can be stressful, particularly to those who have been smoking for a long time. There are many ways to alleviate stress. Some options include:

    • Exercise
    • Going out with a friend
    • Reading a good book
    • Taking a hot bath
    • Massage
    • Eating comfort foods

The main idea is to find something that you enjoy doing. Not only will that take your mind off your withdrawal symptoms, it will relax the muscles and allow the twitching to subside. Since the arteries in your heart are constricting the flow of blood to the other muscles in the body, the best way to get the blood back them is to exercise. Start off slowly and stretch a lot because your heart and muscles may not be used to the strain. As your body gets more and more exercise, the blood flow will return to normal and muscle spasms and twitching will subside. Remember, one cause of muscle spasms is inactivity in the muscles, so get out there and activate them!

    Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

There are always a few people who have withdrawal symptoms worse, or longer lasting than others. This is due to how long they smoked, how much they smoked, and body chemistry. Muscle twitching after quitting smoking is quite common and most people may not even notice it. If you are someone who is experiencing muscle twitching or spasms in an uncomfortable way, there are ways to subside them. Combined with the techniques above, Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy can help you tolerate the muscle twitching more easily.

Joseph R. Giove is a certified Clinical Hypnotist with over 30 years of experience in Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. Quitting smoking will give you a longer and healthier life. Twitching of the muscles is a small price to pay for adding years to your life. By having a relaxed mind and body, your muscle twitching problems will be much easier to handle and subside more quickly!

  • Help! I Have Chest Pain After Quitting Smoking

Help! I Have Chest Pain After Quitting Smoking

There are many side effects that come along with quitting smoking. One of the side effects is having chest pain for a period of time after you have your last cigarette. The body goes through a wide range of changes when quitting smoking. These are known as nicotine withdrawals.

When quitting smoking, your body will try to get back to the normal state it was in before it had to process the chemicals and carcinogens that the body absorbs when smoking. This means that the body will be trying to expel the toxins that have been building up inside it. One of these withdrawal symptoms comes in the form of chest pain.

This article will discuss some of the symptoms related to quitting smoking such as chest pain. It will also discuss the potential severity of this pain and what you should do to treat it. Sometimes chest pain from quitting smoking can be very mild, but other times it could be quite severe, possibly indicating angina or even cancer.

What is Causing the Chest Pain After Quitting Smoking

When someone quits smoking, their body and mind sometimes go through very serious withdrawals. These withdrawals can include chest pain, coughing, and soreness of the lungs. Sometimes when people have been coughing a lot, their bodies are sore throughout the chest and back region.

Some people can feel that their lungs are hurting. Depending on how long you have smoked cigarettes for, this pain could go on for months. However, this pain will most likely subside as long as you keep being smoke free.

This pain is a result of your body trying to get rid of unnatural chemicals in it that were put there by smoking cigarettes. The lungs and heart have to work harder when you smoke cigarettes. They are now working even harder to clean themselves. This can be very distressing to the body and can cause chest pain.

The lungs are also trying to get rid of mucus and other harmful bacteria that have been building up in the lungs, which is most likely a cause of any chest pain being felt. The body has a natural healing process but it does take time. Most smokers who quit abruptly will experience coughing, lung and chest discomfort, and other nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Once the lungs clean themselves of the toxins, the chest pain should subside.

Another reason for chest pain immediately after quitting smoking can be attributed to the fact that your blood vessels are still constricted. This could certainly trigger chest pain because your heart is not pumping blood to all your organs properly. This is another withdrawal symptom that will clear itself over a short period of time being nicotine free. If you do have constant chest pain, see a doctor immediately because the pain could indicate a more severe health concern.

    Angina Pectoris

Angina pectoris is most commonly known as angina. It means that there is an obstruction or spasm of the coronary arteries, causing the heart to not get enough oxygen to function properly. These episodes of angina do not normally last more than five minutes but they are still very serious, and can be scary.

Smoking can cause the arteries in the chest and heart to constrict and limit blood and oxygen flow to the rest of the body. Smoking is the number two cause of angina. The first is age, and currently there is nothing we can do about that!

There are many symptoms that can precede angina, and they can develop very quickly. If you feel you have chronic chest pain or exhibit any of the following symptoms consult a doctor right away. These symptoms include:

    • Chest discomfort – described as heaviness, pressure, tightness, squeezing, or a choking sensation in the chest
    • Back pain
    • Jaw pain
    • Shoulder pain
    • Neck pain

Angina pectoris is a very serious condition and if you feel any of these symptoms you should go a doctor immediately. Quitting smoking will decrease your odds of getting angina pectoris dramatically.

    Chest Pain

    Cancer

Cancer comes in as the most dangerous diagnosis for chest pain after quitting smoking. There are many forms of cancer that are caused by smoking cigarettes but the most common is lung cancer.

Of diagnosed cases in the United States, 8 in 10 are people over the age of 60 and most of them are smokers. This means if you are older, have been smoking for a long time, and are having chest pain, you should speak to your doctor right away. The sooner the cancer is detected, the better chance it can be slowed or removed altogether.

An early warning sign of lung cancer is lung, chest, or back pain. If the pain is persistent, and you are still coughing after 3 months, make sure to have your chest looked at by a doctor to rule out cancer.

    Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

There are many, many negative effects of smoking, with heart problems and cancer right at the top. If you are having any chest pain due to the fact you have quit smoking you should see your doctor immediately. Most of the time it is the body trying to clean itself from the toxins of smoking cigarettes, but it is always a good idea to make sure!

Joseph R. Giove has over 30 years of experience helping people quit smoking using Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. He uses no chemicals or carcinogens as some other quitting aids do, only the natural power of the mind. As a certified Clinical Hypnotist, he can help you cope with any temporary chest pains and relax your mind about any other withdrawal symptoms you may be experiencing.

Quitting smoking will give you a longer and healthier life. There might be some discomfort as you go through the nicotine withdrawals but it will definitely be worth it in the end!

  • Secondhand Smoke: You are Not Alone

Secondhand Smoke: You are Not Alone

It should come as no surprise to anyone that people who smoke cigarettes will most certainly get one or more of the multiple health risks that come along with smoking cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes and any other product that burns tobacco for inhalation purposes. The truly troubling issue is how other people’s cigarettes, and any of the other aforementioned products, affect the people around them who may not smoke.

Secondhand smoke is dangerous to everyone who encounters it, and it is unfortunate when it becomes unavoidable.

In this article we will discuss the following points related to secondhand smoke and the ways that it is just as dangerous smoking cigarettes firsthand.

    • What is Secondhand Smoke? When smokers exhale smoke from cigarettes and other devices the smoke is inhaled by a second party.
    • The Effects of Secondhand Smoke on Everyone: Tobacco smoking contains many chemicals and potentially life-threatening carcinogens that are passed on through secondhand smoke.
    • The Effects of Secondhand Smoke on Children: Secondhand smoke is even more harmful to children and youth.
    • Secondhand Smoke By the Numbers: Studies and connections between secondhand smoke and diseases.
    • How Joseph R Giove Can Help You and Others Quit smoking: Joseph R Giove is a Clinical Hypnotist and Hypnotherapist who can help you, or those around you, quit.

    What is Secondhand Smoke?

Secondhand smoke is exactly what it sounds like. When someone smoke a cigarette, a cigar, e-cigarette, a pipe or anything else that burns tobacco and the chemicals that are contained within the product, it produces smoke that is instantly inhaled by people in the smokers vicinity. Secondhand smoke is also known as Passive Smoking or Environmental Tobacco Smoke.

Often times these are people that do not smoke, but nevertheless are placed at risk for many of the same afflictions that affect real smokers, sometimes, with dire consequences. Secondhand smoke is extremely dangerous for the people affected by it, and it’s most troubling because they did not opt to undertake this risk on their own accord.

The Effects of Secondhand Smoke on Everyone

There are many health risks that come from smoking cigarettes and other tobacco inhaling products. Some of these factors include strokes, blindness, cataracts, macular degeneration, periodontitis, aortic aneurysms, coronary heart disease, pneumonia, atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, tuberculosis, asthma, diabetes, reproductive defects, hip fractures, ectopic pregnancy, erectile dysfunction, rheumatoid arthritis, immune dysfunction, overall diminished health and causes 15 types of cancer.

As we can see by this extensive list, there are many conditions and diseases that can afflict people who smoke cigarettes. Alarmingly, however, it is possible for all of these conditions to affect regular, non-smoking people that are habitually around those who smoke. For instance, only a few years ago you could smoke inside public areas, including bars, restaurants, lobbies and numerous other places. Non-smoking bartenders, servers, hostesses, concierge and numerous other patrons were continuously placed at risk for all of these conditions.

The Effects of Secondhand Smoke on Children

The effects of secondhand on the adult population are numerous and alarming, however there are even greater risks for young children. Often a parent or other member of the household smokes cigarettes in their homes in close proximity to the children who live there. This is one of secondhand smoke’s biggest problems. Firstly, the lungs of small children may not be fully developed, and thus unable to counteract a long list of deadly side-effects. Some of these side-effects include:

    • Middle ear disease
    • Problematic respiratory symptoms
    • Impaired lung function
    • Lower respiratory illness
    • SIDS (Sudden infant death syndrome)

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is obviously the most severe and traumatic of the list. There is no doubt that secondhand smoke is extremely dangerous to, not only everyone, but especially young children. Not only are they mentally influential at a young age and may take up smoking in the future, but they are at serious and immediate risk if their parents, or anyone else, is smoking around them.

    Secondhand Smoke and Children

    Secondhand Smoke by the Numbers

The effects of secondhand smoke, or passive smoke, are evident. There are also some sobering statistics that have been compiled by multiple studies and experts over the last few decades. In addition to studies being done in the United States, there have been many other studies conducted in other countries around the world that are equally concerned with the health effects of secondhand smoke.
For example, a study done by the National Asthma Council of Australia has published the following results:

    • Asthmatic adults have found that secondhand smoke gives them symptoms of an attack
    • Living in a smoking household increases a child’s risk of developing asthma
    • Children who have asthma are more susceptible to other diseases when one or both parents smoke

Another study from France has concluded that secondhand smoke causes between 3000 and 5000 premature deaths per year. In 1992, a study from the United States found that secondhand smoke caused 35,000 to 40,000 total deaths per year. We can clearly see that it has been proven without a doubt that there is a very real and very dangerous link between secondhand smoke and the risk of lung cancer.

Quitting smoking obviously will help improve your health and life longevity, but it will also greatly benefit the health of those around you. If you are smoking around other people, then you are inflicting them with the same chemicals and carcinogens that you as a smoker are taking in voluntarily. Children are an especially vulnerable segment of the population, as they have little or no choice except to breathe in whatever air you provide for them. Children do not and will not understand the health factors of cigarettes unless they are educated as early as possible.

  • The Five Most Alarming Facts About Smoking

The Five Most Alarming Facts About Smoking

It is no secret that smoking cigarettes, pipes, cigars, smokeless tobacco, e-cigarettes and all other tobacco products are dangerous to your health and potentially fatal. Scientists and researchers have examined in great detail all of the chemicals involved in the manufacturing of cigarettes, and have laid out many of the troubling outcomes of prolonged cigarette use. This article will focus on the most alarming of these.

    The Harmful Chemicals in Cigarettes

A cigarette is more than just tobacco rolled in paper, in fact there are more than 7000 chemicals that are released when a cigarette is lit and smoked. Additionally, more than 600 ingredients go into the farming, manufacturing and production of cigarettes. Obviously there are too many to list here, but here are some of the more common and most harmful components:

    • Ammonia- also found in household and industrial cleaning supplies
    • Arsenic – commonly used as poison to kill rodents
    • Benzene – a complex chemical used in many industrial products such as plastics, rubber cement, gasoline and pesticides
    • Butane – the main ingredient in lighter fluid
    • Carbon Monoxide – also found in car exhaust
    • Formaldehyde – commonly used in glues, plywood and insulation materials
    • Lead – used in batteries
    • Nicotine – used in insecticides
    • Tar – used for paving roads and roofing

These are just a few of the ingredients that can be found in cigarettes. There are many, many more, all with varying side effects and complicated names that obscure their harmful effects. Cigarettes have warning labels on them but they are often not nearly specific enough. Most of the household or industrial products that contain these same chemicals carry warning labels stating that consuming these products are harmful to your health, some even list the number for poison control. Meanwhile, warnings on cigarette packages simply carry a mild warning of lung cancer or potential impotence.

    E-Cigarettes: Not a Safe Alternative

E-cigarettes are a nicotine delivery system. They heat flavoured nicotine (and many of the other dangerous chemicals found in cigarettes) with a battery operated ignition. Puffing an e-cigarette activates the heating device which then vaporizes the flavored liquid, and the user then inhales. This process is called ‘vaping’, and although it is often touted as a safer alternative to smoking, it nevertheless makes use of the aforementioned chemicals also found in cigarettes.

Studies from the Harvard School of Public Health found at least one of the most toxic chemicals found in regular cigarettes in over 50 flavors of e-cigarettes. These chemicals are diacetyl, acetoin and 2,3 pentanedione. In a quote from the report, author Joseph Allen says “the amount of diacetyl in 39 of the e-cigs exceeded the amount that was detectable by the laboratory.” This means the amount was too great to even measure, and as such we are unable to determine what effect such an unfathomable amount would have on a person’s health.

The test results regarding e-cigarettes are only now becoming available to the public, and they are showing us that the risks associated with e-cigarettes are at least equivalent to, and in some cases greater than conventional cigarettes. Big tobacco companies have found a way push these products onto the public with the message that e-cigarettes are a ‘healthier’ alternative, or even an effective way to quit smoking. “Vaping”, which is what smoking an e- cigarette is called, may seem like a healthier alternative to a conventional cigarette, but they contain many of the same chemicals, as well as additional chemicals, often in significantly higher concentrations. One of these chemicals, found in the flavoring component of several e-cigarettes, is formaldehyde, and will therefore not only cause addiction but also severe lung damage.

    Secondhand Smoke and Our Youth

The damaging health effects of smoking cigarettes by smokers aside, there is significant danger from secondhand smoke, particularly for children. Any time parents, teachers, babysitters, grandparents or anyone else smokes around children or youth, it is a tragedy. Children are not only susceptible to the horrific health risks that come from secondhand smoke, but are also influenced by behaviors of those around them, especially their parents.

Youth are starting to take up smoking at younger and younger ages, due to peer pressure, advertising on TV, or because they have a parent who smoked. E-cigarettes are being offered in flavors such as cotton candy and fruit squirts, making smoking more appealing to those under the age of 18. Most wish later in life that they had not started smoking, and find it difficult to quit.

Everyday, more than 1800 youth and adult casual smokers become daily smokers. Many of these people were one of the 3200 people who smoked their first cigarette before they were 18 years of age, or even younger. The addictive characteristics of cigarettes and other tobacco products means that nearly 7 out of 10 adults now want to quit smoking but only about 4 in 10 have made an attempt to quit.

Smoking Around Children Can Kill Them

Smoking Causes Many Forms of Cancer

Smoking cigarettes can cause and exacerbate all forms of cancer. Some of the leading cancers that can come from prolonged smoking are cancer in the lungs, mouth, throat, kidney, liver, stomach and colon. Smoking can also cause acute myeloid leukemia. These are only a few of the disastrous long term cancerous effects of smoking.

There Are No Safe Ways to Smoke

Many people think there are safe ways to smoke. There are not. Smoking tobacco and nicotine will always be harmful to your health. Waterpipes, hookahs, pipes, bidis, and kreteks are all different ways of smoking tobacco. These methods use different methods to ingest the smoke by using water or other seemingly ‘natural’ products, but still have the same dangerous and cancerous effects that come with smoking conventional cigarettes.

    Health and Hypnotherapy

Youth and adults alike are not receiving proper health information regarding the risks and dangerous effects of cigarettes, e-cigarettes and other tobacco products. Problems associated with smoking do not just affect the original smoker, secondhand smoke is passed on to other people, including people’s own children. Surely this is reason enough to make an attempt to quit.

One of the most effective tools for those wishing to quit smoking is the proven method of Clinical Hypnosis. Certified Hypnotherapist Joseph R. Giove has over 25 years of experience working to help people of all ages leave cigarettes behind for good. His methods are unintrusive, and pose no additional risk factors such as increased carcinogen or chemical intake that come with other quitting smoking methods. Joseph R. Giove Clinical Hypnosis provides the tools to help rewire your brain so you are no longer dependent on cigarettes, allowing you to live a healthier, smoke-free lifestyle that benefits both you and everyone around you.

  • Cigarette Smoking And Impotence

    Cigarette Smoking And Impotence

Medical science regularly focuses on finding the information needed to keep us as healthy as possible. And along with cures for diseases and illnesses, a lot of that research focuses instead on prevention. It makes sense – preventing problems is much easier than correcting them, after all. To do so, we need to identify, understand, and avoid health risks.

One of the biggest health risks in history is certainly smoking cigarettes. This habit has been proven to directly cause or lead to heart disease, cancer, and a variety of other health issues. But at Joseph R. Giove Clinical Hypnosis, I’m surprised at how many people don’t realize the full extent of smoking and how it can impact other parts of their health.

For many, there are certain health issues that are linked to smoking that can come as a surprise. A perfect example of this is in impotence and sexual dysfunction, and it’s important to take a closer look at this problem and how smoking can impact it.

    The Hard Data

First, it’s worth taking a look at the numbers related to this issue. A recent study involving over 4,700 men looked at sexual relationships and lifestyle choices. Here’s what the survey found.

    • Current and former smokers were roughly 30{cb12661b2b7fd86e618703ac3a1bf5df9897d897450d7668a57e7745cc225577} more likely to be dealing with impotence of some kind than those who had never smoked.
    • Heavy smokers – those who smoke more than a pack a day – have a 60{cb12661b2b7fd86e618703ac3a1bf5df9897d897450d7668a57e7745cc225577} higher chance of impotence, in particular erectile dysfunction.
    • 15{cb12661b2b7fd86e618703ac3a1bf5df9897d897450d7668a57e7745cc225577} of those who smoke or have smoked in the past reported that they have experienced erectile dysfunction at least once.
    • About 12{cb12661b2b7fd86e618703ac3a1bf5df9897d897450d7668a57e7745cc225577} of non-smokers reported experiencing erectile dysfunction.

But that’s just one study. Another program actually examined things like erection strength throughout the course of the study. Here’s a look at some of the numbers from that study.

    • At the beginning of the study, about 20{cb12661b2b7fd86e618703ac3a1bf5df9897d897450d7668a57e7745cc225577} of participants stated that they suffered from erectile dysfunction.
    • When the study concluded, 75{cb12661b2b7fd86e618703ac3a1bf5df9897d897450d7668a57e7745cc225577} of those who had quit smoking reported experiencing no more problems with impotence
    • Those who avoided nicotine altogether developed larger and firmer erections – but these changes only came upon stopping all nicotine, not just smoking in general.

In other words, the evidence is overwhelming – smoking directly causes and worsens impotence and other sexual dysfunction problems. In addition to impacting your health in a dramatic way, it may also be hurting your sex life.

Smoking Cigarettes Can Lead To Impotence

    Why Does Smoking Impact Impotence?

The next thing you probably want to understand is how this happens and why smoking causes impotence at all. This isn’t difficult to understand if you take a closer look at how smoking works and how it can impact your life.

First, you’ll need to understand erectile dysfunction itself. Basically, this is a problem wherein the penis fails to fill completely with blood. When the arteries within the penis fill with blood, they expand and create an erection. Poor arterial blood supply means that an erection is difficult to attain – the more blood, the better.

But smoking impedes the blood flow within your body. The chemicals in cigarette smoke damage the blood vessels significantly. This in turn can restrict blood flow moving through them, which in turn means that there isn’t as much blood moving to the penis when there should be. Add to this the fact that smoking can weaken or damage the heart, reducing its ability to pump blood throughout the body effectively, and it isn’t hard to see just how smoking impacts impotence.

Additionally, it’s worth remembering that the blood flow moving throughout the body is dictated by the nervous system. Research shows that smoking can directly impact the nervous system as well, and as a result it can be much harder to get or maintain an erection – the brain isn’t able to properly control the blood flow, and even when it does the damaged arteries make it harder to get the erection.

    Additional Health Risks

Along with outright impotence, it’s important to pay attention to the fact that smoking can impact a lot of other aspects of your health that may directly relate to sexual performance. Things like respiratory health, cardiovascular health, and more can all impact your sexual health due to their potential influence on health overall. In short, your smoking will not only directly influence your sex life, but indirectly as well.

And many of the health problems that smoking causes will also have an influence on sex. For example, something like heart disease could trigger fatigue which in turn can reduce your overall desire for sex. This is just one example.

All in all, it’s important to understand that your body is a finely tuned machine, and introducing any chemicals to it that shouldn’t be part of it will undoubtedly impact your health and the way the body performs. This includes your sexual performance.

    Overcoming The Problem

Luckily, if you’re experiencing impotence as a result of smoking, there’s hope. The studies show that after smoking, impotence issues lessen dramatically and the strength of erections increase significantly. Just putting down the cigarettes is enough to start moving back towards a healthier you overall and a healthier you in the bedroom.

But, with that said, remember that the data shows that it’s not just smoking that can impact an erection – it’s nicotine itself. In other words, if you’re looking to improve your sexual performance you can’t just stop smoking by using patches, gum, or those electronic cigarettes. Instead, you need to stop nicotine use entirely.

Hypnosis is a perfect way to do so, and offers a way to stop smoking without the use of supporting nicotine. This lets you put down the smokes and start moving towards a healthier you – and a healthier sex life – naturally. Science has proven that it’s highly effective, and that it’s one of the absolute best ways to stop smoking for good.

If you’re a smoker who is dealing with erection problems it might be time to stop smoking. The impact on your life can’t be overstated, and it’s something that you can’t afford to ignore any longer.

  • Does E-Cigarette Smoking Affect Your Lungs?

Does E-Cigarette Smoking Affect Your Lungs?

There is, at this point, no argument within the medical community or the public at large that smoking cigarettes can seriously impact your health in a negative way. Smoking has one of the largest negative influences on your health possible, and it’s important to stop smoking if you’re already a smoker.

To stop smoking, however, many people are turning to the use of electronic cigarettes, also called e-cigs or e-cigarettes for short. These devices are supposed to replicate the act of smoking and provide the body with the nicotine it’s addicted to, but without the hazardous chemicals found in traditional cigarettes.

And the basic data explains why it’s such a popular option. After all, cigarette smoke contains about 4,000 toxic chemicals and every puff you take pulls those cancer causing agents into your lungs. E-cigs, the argument goes, don’t have all those carcinogens. You’re exposing yourself only to water vapor and nicotine.

But is this really accurate? Does e-cigarette smoking affect your lungs? The answer should be obvious, but it’s one I get here at Joseph R. Giove Clinical Hypnosis often. As such, I think it’s time to take a closer look at the subject to help you understand more about just why you need to rethink your position on e-cigs.

    Your Lungs

First, let’s start with a brief point to understand about your lungs and airways. The respiratory system is made up of a large number of mucus membranes, from your sinuses to your lungs and all points in between. These mucus membranes are incredibly delicate and easily absorb almost any compound that they come in contact with. In other words, each puff off of an e-cig means that you’re putting what’s in those e-cigs into your lungs, and that your respiratory system is absorbing the compounds and chemicals within them.

    What Is An E-Cig?

Now we need to look at the e-cigarette itself. E-cigs are small units that are made up of a battery, heating element, and cartridge. The cartridge contains a liquid mixture made up of flavoring, nicotine, and some liquid that vaporizes easily, usually propylene glycol. Advertisements suggest that it’s just ‘water vapor’ you’re inhaling, but that’s not entirely accurate.

When you take a drag on the e-cig, the battery switches the heating element on. This heat vaporizes the liquid, and the vapor that you inhale is the resulting cloud of ‘smoke’ that you see being exhaled. The various flavors are part of why about 2.5 million teens try these e-cigs, and why they’re so popular among adults as well.

    E-Cigarette Smoking And Your Lungs

Now that you understand the basics behind your lungs and their mucus membranes – and the basics of e-cigs – you should be able to understand why the assumption that e-cigs are safe isn’t a good one to make. The reason is obvious. You’re still breathing in large amounts of chemicals and exposing your lungs to them. In fact, the amount of vapor inhaled from certain e-cigs is surprisingly large.
Sadly, e-cigs are still so new that long-term studies haven’t been completed yet. What research does exist is gradually starting to reveal some disturbing facts. Here’s a look at some of the things you need to consider.

    • You’re still putting nicotine into your body. And while there hasn’t been an increased risk of cancer found with e-cigs and nicotine, the drug can damage arteries, increase the chance of heart attacks, and increase blood pressure. Additionally, nicotine is the addictive substance found in smoking. Not only can it damage your lungs, but it can keep you hooked on the use of e-cigs.
    • There is no FDA regulation on e-cigs and their ingredients. As such, your lungs could be exposed to a wide range of chemicals that could damage them in significant ways. There’s no way to know for sure what is in an e-cig cartridge or mixture since there are no regulations in place.
    • A 2014 study found that aerosol from high-voltage e-cigs contains higher levels of formaldehyde. This carcinogen can cause cancer and have other health impacts on your lungs as well as the rest of your body.
    • Several other cancer causing chemicals have been found in studies, though the specific chemicals in an e-cig varies from product to product due to the aforementioned lack of FDA regulations.
    • The most recent study, completed in 2015, found that the actual flavorings used in e-cigarettes were particularly dangerous. Chemicals linked to respiratory disease and lung cancer have been found in 47 out of 51 flavors tested in the study. In short, these flavors are a main draw of ‘vaping’, but actually also serve as one of the biggest dangers.

Add to this the fact that most medical experts and researchers agree that there isn’t enough evidence to determine for sure what kind of long term damage e-cigarette smoking can cause, and it becomes clear that your lungs could be paying a heavier price than you realize whenever you use an e-cigarette. They may be safer than traditional cigarettes, but that’s not really saying much.

Additionally, those who are already at risk of health issues like those suffering from lupus or other immune or respiratory-specific illnesses need to remember that e-cigs can make their conditions even worse.

Quit Electronic Cigarettes For Your Health

    Quitting Nicotine Is Possible

Whether you picked up e-cigs to stop smoking traditional cigarettes or have always been an e-cig user and nothing else, it’s important to remember that there you can stop. Nicotine is the primary reason that people are addicted to smoking any kind of cigarette – electronic or traditional – and breaking free of nicotine addiction is important for them to do.

Hypnotherapy offers a way to do just that, and to do so without the risk of health conditions, lung damage, or any other similar problem occurring. Studies have found that hypnosis can work to help improve your ability to stop smoking, and the power of mental suggestion is something that can directly lead to improved health and wellbeing. If you’re serious about improving your life, don’t’ look for bubble gum flavored e-cigs. Look at a viable option that will actually work.

  • Electronic Cigarettes And Lupus

    Electronic Cigarettes And Lupus

Head out into public and within a few minutes there’s a very good chance that you’ll see at least one or two people puffing away on an electronic cigarette. Humans have always had a fascination with smoking, it seems, and over the years it’s evolved from pipes to cigarettes and cigars and now to our modern version of smoking – vaping.

While it’s marketed as a safer alternative to cigarettes, vaping – the use of electronic cigarettes – does still have health risks to consider, and the research is too young to accurately determine what kind of a long term impact electronic cigarettes can have on your health. Those with existing health issues will likely find that e-cigs could continue to cause them additional trouble that traditional cigarettes did. A perfect example of this is lupus, and at Joseph R. Giove Clinical Hypnosis I’ve regularly seen the impact of e-cigs on those with disorders like lupus.

As such, I think it’s worth taking a closer look at this subject in order to show just how important it is to find alternative options for smoking cessation – and why hypnosis is a great option for doing just that.

    Electronic Cigarettes

First, we’ll begin with understanding the basics of electronic cigarettes. E-cigs are generally shaped either like a traditional cigarette or with a larger box at the bottom of the unit with a nozzle leading upwards. One design looks like a cigarette, the other resembles a pipe in some aspects.

No matter the design, they work similarly. Cartridges with a liquid mixture of nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals – usually propylene glycol – are loaded into the unit. When a ‘drag’ from the e-cig is taken the chemicals are heated up and turned to vapor, which is then inhaled like a regular puff from a cigarette.

They’re marketed as a safe alternative to traditional smoking since many of the carcinogens present in cigarette smoke are missing. But research done into them has been very minimal and still suggests numerous health risks. Additionally, the long term health risks are unknown and there is reason to believe that in the future, a wide range of additional health issues may be linked to e-cigs.

    Lupus

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can damage a wide range of the body. Essentially, those with lupus suffer because their body’s immune system attacks the organs and tissues within it – your body is attacking health cells and tissues. This can lead to rashes, inflammation, increased infections, fatigue, joint pain, and more. In severe cases it can cause significant health problems to occur.

Unfortunately, lupus is a disease that still isn’t’ fully understood. Causes aren’t entirely known and treatment generally focuses on controlling symptoms instead of curing the disease. As such, it’s a serious condition and doing all that you can to manage and control it is important.

    Lupus And Smoking

A lot of research has been done into the dangers of smoking, and some of it has focused on how it impacts lupus sufferers. The medical community agrees that stopping smoking will have the biggest positive impact on lupus possible.

The big reason is that those with lupus are at increased risk of infections, and respiratory infections are the most common types of infections that they develop. On their own, smoking cigarettes can increase the risk of developing bronchitis and pneumonia. When a lupus sufferer smokes, that risk is only increased further.

The other dangers are directly associated with the fact that lupus sufferers are already at an increased risk for health issues that smoking can cause. This includes cardiac disease and heart attacks – lupus patients are at a greater risk of heart disease, and smoking only makes this worse. The same goes for the circulatory system, the kidneys, and the liver.

In short, lupus patients who smoke are increasing their risks of health conditions dramatically due to the combination of their medical condition and the health impact of smoking. It’s a dangerous connection and one that needs to be addressed.

    What About E-Cigs?

The general argument for e-cigs is simple – they’re not cigarettes, and as such they provide nicotine in a much safer method of action. But the reality is that the mucus membranes of the respiratory system are incredibly delicate and easily absorb chemicals and compound that touch them. Each puff from an e-cig places a variety of chemicals within the respiratory system.

A lupus sufferer already has a weekend immune system and are more likely to develop respiratory problems, and when a drag from an e-cig is taken it makes it more likely that those illnesses will develop. Despite the supposed ‘safety’, it’s still a risk – especially when you’re suffering from lupus.

Add this to the fact that e-cigs haven’t been fully tested for long-term effects and the fact that there is no FDA approval needed and it becomes clear that lupus sufferers need to avoid e-cigs completely for the sake of their health.

    What Can Be Done?

Stopping smoking doesn’t have to mean picking up an electronic cigarette. There are options that can allow you to break free of smoking entirely and focus your attention on coping with lupus. At Joseph R. Giove Clinical Hypnosis, I use a drug free approach to helping patients stop smoking for good.

The key is understanding the power of the mind and using mental suggestion to rework the way that your mind thinks and works. It sounds simple, and at its basic level it is. But it’s something that is only possible with the help of an experienced hypnotherapist due to the process involved.

Lupus sufferers need to stop smoking, and they need to do so entirely – not just by continuing to smoke in a different form. And when you consider the health impacts that smoking can have on anyone’s health, it becomes clear that hypnosis is something everyone who smokes should consider. It’s been proven to be effective, and thousands of people have been able to put down their smokes for good thanks to my help. It’s worth trying for yourself.
